XETA Wireless Design and Placement Guide

XETA Wireless Design and Placement Guide

Proper placement of your XG7 devices ensures the best WiFi performance throughout your home. Here's how to position them for optimal coverage.

Primary XG7 Wireless Router Placement

Best Location

Place your main XG7:

  • Near your internet modem for easy ethernet connection
  • Centrally in your home when possible
  • On the main floor for multi-story homes
  • On a desk, shelf, or table - not on the floor

What to Avoid

  • Inside metal cabinets or closed spaces (blocks signal)
  • Behind large metal objects

Adding More XG7 Wireless Devices / Extenders

Multiple Floors

  • One device per floor typically works best
  • Place on opposite sides of each floor when possible
  • Keep them elevated on desks or shelves

Large Single-Floor Homes

  • Spread devices apart to cover different areas
  • Avoid clustering them in the same room
  • Test coverage after placing each device

Simple Setup Requirements

Physical Needs

Each XG7 needs:

  • AC power outlet nearby
  • Flat, stable surface for desktop placement
  • Open air around the device (don't box it in)
  • Easy access to see the status lights

Wireless Connection Between Devices

For best results, we recommend a signal of at least -75dBm between XG7 devices. If you experience slow speeds or connection issues, try moving devices closer together or use an ethernet cable to connect them directly.

Quick Placement Tips

Good Placement Examples

  • Living room desk or entertainment center
  • Kitchen counter (away from microwave)
  • Home office desk
  • Bedroom dresser or nightstand
  • Hallway table for central coverage

Signs of Good Placement

  • Strong WiFi signal throughout your home
  • Fast internet speeds in all rooms
  • Devices connect quickly and stay connected
  • Smooth video streaming without buffering

Signs You Need to Relocate

  • Weak signal in some rooms
  • Slow speeds in certain areas
  • Frequent disconnections
  • Videos buffer or calls drop

Ethernet Option (Even Better)

If you have ethernet cables available throughout the location you're installing at, connecting XG7 devices with ethernet cables instead of WiFi provides:

  • Faster speeds between devices
  • More reliable connection
  • Better performance for high-demand activities

Simply connect the LAN port on one XG7 to the LAN port on another using an ethernet cable (an additional Ethernet switch might be necessary if connecting multiple devices)

Multi-Floor Strategy

Two-Story Homes

  • Main router on the first floor, centrally located
  • Second device on the second floor, opposite side of house

Three+ Story Homes

  • One device per floor for best coverage
  • Stagger placement so they're not directly above each other
  • Test signal strength between floors

Bottom Line

Place your XG7 devices in open, central locations on stable surfaces with power nearby. Spread them throughout your home rather than clustering them together. If you have connection issues, try moving devices closer or connecting with ethernet cables.

Remember: Start with one device and test coverage before adding more. It's easy to expand your network as needed.
