Configure a Guest Network With XETA

Setting up a guest network is simple and keeps your main network secure while giving visitors internet access. Guest devices are automatically isolated from your personal files, smart devices, and other network resources.

What It Does

  • Separate WiFi for guests with its own network name and password
  • Automatic security - guests can't see your devices or files
  • Internet access only for visitors
  • No sharing your main WiFi password

Simple Setup ( < 2 minutes )

  1. Log in to your XETA Router (e.g. https://192.168.254.254)
  2. Click WiFi → General → Guest Network tab
  3. Check "Enable network broadcast"
  4. Enter a network name (like "Guest-WiFi" or "Visitor")
  5. Create a password for guests to use
  6. Save your settings

That's it! Your guest network is now active and visible to nearby devices.

Why This Protects You

Once enabled, guests automatically can't access:

  • Your personal files and documents
  • Smart home devices (cameras, thermostats, printers)
  • Other devices on your main network
  • Shared folders or network storage

They get internet access only, which is exactly what most guests need.

Quick Tips

Naming Your Guest Network

  • Use obvious names like "Guest-WiFi," "Visitor," or "YourName-Guest"
  • Keep it simple and easy for guests to find and type
  • Make it clear it's the guest network

Password Best Practices

  • Use simple passwords guests can easily enter on their phones
  • Avoid complex symbols that are hard to type
  • Write it down or share it verbally with visitors
  • Change it occasionally for security

Basic Troubleshooting

Guest network not showing up?

  • Make sure "Enable network broadcast" is checked
  • Wait a minute for devices to refresh their WiFi lists

Guests can't connect?

  • Double-check the password you gave them
  • Make sure they're selecting the right network name

Need to disable it?

  • Simply uncheck "Enable network broadcast" and save

Bottom Line

Guest networks take 5 minutes to set up and provide secure internet access for visitors while protecting your personal devices. It's an easy way to be hospitable without compromising your network security.
